But even now, I find myself asking if it may be too soon. After all, shouldn't you wait until the all the guns have stopped firing before stepping onto the range?

In a recent episode of The Onramp, I asked where the money was coming from. With the total amount given away thus far approaching $8 trillion, I know the answer: we're printing it. The United States of America and our Chinese bank friends don't actually have $8 trillion dollars. We just don't. So the only possible explanation is that we are simply printing whatever amount we want.

Our elected representatives don't care about the future. They can't see or think past tomorrow or their next election. They don't want to be the one to make a right, but possibly unpopular, choice of letting an American company go bankrupt. But that issue alone should make you wonder about who got the money. We know that Citigroup, Goldman Sachs (more corrupt than we could ever know), Chrysler, GM, Bear Stearns, etc. all got money. But why didn't Lehman Brothers get any? They were a huge institution on Wall Street with billion dollar figures. No money for them but a couple local and regional banks were included in the bailout? Hmmm...could bribery and political scandal be involved? Heavens no! Not our government!

American firms are asking for handouts left, right, and center. Congress has absolutely no plan, strategy, or method for fairly choosing who receives our Monopoly money or how to oversee its intended use. So where does this leave the American people?

Bankrupt
Debt lasting at least 2 generations (thats 50+ years)
Owned by China and Middle Eastern oil princes
Supporting inefficient and corrupt corporations
Using a worthless dollar
Preparing for food riots

What a wonderful world this will be.

Politico Reporter Can See the Future!

Notice the time the story was filed. His former government is making very poor attempts to dispel such rumors, but they are all so badly executed (like many of his enemies) that even the most basic Photoshop user can spot the errors.

They first released a story that he was at a football game for military teams. But no pictures. And this was after he had missed some of the biggest events of the year, including the 60th anniversary of the nation. Pictures and video would have been natural. Especially from a guy who is as in love with himself as Kim. Then they release a photo of him in some sort of VIP booth with a cheesy smile. The image looked like it was taken in 1962 with a shaky lens from a NASA video camera. Grainy and blurry. Obviously someone in the "Kim Is Still Alive" department had missed a deadline and threw something together. And yesterday, they release a military still photo of him surrounded by troops. (See link above.) One small problem - his shadow doesn't match everyone else's.

So what happens now? Someone in North Korea is running the show, but we don't know who. They have some level of nuclear explosives, but it is rudimentary and has not yet been used since Kim's departure. And the United States has a new President who is open to discussion with horrible leaders like Kim. Will Obama solve the North Korean crisis? According to change.gov, it would seem he will speak with whoever is in control. That would definitely be a new course in American policy. Maybe his real plan is to get Castro, Ahmadinejad, Kim, Putin, and Jintao in a room and let some psychos from PETA and Amnesty International eliminate them. I hope they post it on YouTube!

Bad Journalism Hurts The People

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1108/15364.html

If you don't read the above-linked article, that's okay. You won't be missing anything because it doesn't actually contain any journalism. It contains a rumor. Completely hatched by one person in the Democratic party with no stated support or fact.

It states that one Democratic snitch says Joe Gibbs will be Obama's press secretary. But the second to last paragraph says this: "Transition planning is still at an early stage and the job has not been formally offered or accepted, officials said."

So if my reading skills are still top notch, here's what I understand: an anonymous source says a guy who has not been offered a job has the job. WOW! I've never had a job that had not been offered to me, let alone waited for me to accept the offer.

This is the problem with the media today. They rely on anonymous sources to give them unsubstantiated stories that aren't true. And they call it news reporting. Why? Because it fills up their website or TV station with fluff for a 24-hour news cycle.

Way to go Politico. It may be a day late and a dollar short, but the American people have finally said with one strong voice that the last eight years have been a disaster. Democratic candidates have won offices never before considered possible. Red states have become blue states. Congress looks a bit more one-sided. And this incredible nation of ours has looked beyond its monochromatic history of leadership to something new and yearning to overcome.

I wholeheartedly congratulate President-Elect Obama and his family on their victory. I'm especially thankful that he gave such a dignified and friendly speech of thanks. As one friend of mine put it, it was not a "victory speech". I like the overtures he made to Republicans by referencing Reagan's "beacon" idea and asking them to be a part of the solution to America's challenges. His comment about the "juvenile" behavior that has plagued our politics was particularly nice to hear.

America is ready to begin a new era. They have publicly questioned the motives and sanity of this small majority who's optimism outweighs their reality. Sadly, it seems that everything really is bigger in Texas.

In a recent statewide poll, 34% of Texans approve of President Bush's job performance. Despite two wars, lying to the American public about WMD & Iraq, a collapsed economy, trillions of taxpayer dollars going to Wall Street firms, the an assault on our environment, the return of torture to American policy, the most vile political partisanship in recent history ("I'm a uniter, not a divider"), the politicization of the Supreme Court, our lost leadership on the world stage, failing to understand and support our military, and his general inability to read, spell, or put a coherent sentence together, one-third of Texas believes he's the right guy for the job.

I have lost a lot of faith in the American electorate and our system in general over the past eight years. The nation seems to choose its leaders based on their desire to share a beer rather than their ability to lead the free world. Voting is more about popularity than about the populace. Now one of the most economically vital states in the Union is still convinced that their former drunk-driving, cocaine-snorting, can't-find-oil-in-Texas-or-run-a-baseball-team Governor has done a great job with America.

It is my sincere hope that America soon realizes that blame can only be assigned to its citizens for its failures. We choose those who lead us and if they fail, it is only because we allowed them to. Caring more about Hollywood than Washington can be our undoing.

(And incidentally, this same survey found that 23% of Texans still believe Barack Obama is a Muslim.)
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6084678.html

Did you watch Barack TV?

Were you one of the millions to watch the Barack Obama infomercial? I don't see why they would do that. Haider isn't important enough to pose a threat to Israel.

ORIGINAL POST: Yet another radical European leader has suffered the fate of so many who go around upsetting the wrong people. Just 24-48 hours ago, one of Austria's governors, Joerg Haider, was in the news for setting up remote prisons where he could keep and supervise immigrants to his country seeking asylum. These camps were in the middle of nowhere and not inspected by independent authorities. Moments ago, Joerg Haider was killed in a car accident while driving to his mother's 90th birthday celebration.

Do I have any proof he was assassinated? No.
Do I miss a crazy xenophobe who once praised Nazi employment tactics? No.
Was this guy assassinated for too much bad press? They seem to view government intervention as a good thing, increased unnecessary spending as a natural occurrence, and corporate America as their own personal pet project.

But tonight, I want to applaud the 13 United States Senators -Republican and Democrat alike- for opposing a piece of legislation that will dig an immensely large hole that America may never truly find its way out of. They weren't even close. They were enemies. They trashed each other on nearly every issue and saw eye-to-eye on less. So it should come as no surprise that one of Clinton's wealthiest supporters will announce her endorsement of McCain.
Wait.
Huh?

Super snob Lynn Forester de Rothschild announced she will be endorsing John McCain for President. She was a Hillraiser during Clinton's campaign (meaning she raised more than $100,000 for the candidate) and was a member of the Democratic National Committee's Platform Committee. But when this rich hobknober doesn't get her way, she takes her uber-purse and runs away.

Now for the question that is surely at the forefront of your mind: Why would such a dedicated Democrat and Clintonite suddenly start battling for the evil Republicans? That's simple - she thinks Barack Obama is an elitist. You read that right. Ms. Forester de Rothschild, who is married to a British knight and international banker (Sir Evelyn de Rothschild) and splits her time between homes and businesses in London and New York and has the ovaries to publicize a picture wearing a huge double-strand of pearls, thinks Barack Obama is an elitist.

She cares more about being a sore loser and getting her name in the papers than actually doing what she believes is right for the country. Maybe the only reason she wanted Hillary to win was because she was a woman. Maybe she wanted Hillary to win because it meant she could have a friend in the White House again. Maybe she wanted Hillary to win because she is a huge fan of pant suits. I don't know. But I know this - if she cared anything about this country before her own selfish ego boost, she wouldn't consider McCain for dog catcher, let alone President.

In all fairness, I believe there is at least one similarity between McCain and Forester de Rothschild: I'll bet neither one of them knows how many houses they own.

CNN: Prominent Clinton backer and DNC member to endorse McCain

September 11th - 7 years later

From everyone here at The Onramp Podcast, we take time today to remember the events of September 11th, 2001 and the people who have meant so much to our nation since that day. And while it is true that he does not have decades of experience on the federal or state level (separately), the Constitution does not require it. He must be 35 years old and a citizen by birth on American soil.

But what will the venemous Republican Party attack now that their own nominee has selected a running mate with far less experience (fewer years on state level and none at the federal) and is even younger than Sen. Obama (44 vs. 47)?

Personally, I don't care how old they are. If they meet the Constitutional requirement, that is where the age debate should end. I really don't care if McCain is 72 or 92. Some of our greatest Presidents have been eligible for AARP membership. The American obsession with youth (and their empowerment, much to the detriment of their maturity) is a recent fad which should not invade our Presidential elections. As a recent example, Bill Clinton was an excellent President and under the age of 50. To serve as contrast, George W. Bush has been a criminally dangerous and destructive President, also under the age of 50. It just goes to show that age isn't everything!

This Associated Press article came out just a couple hours after Palin's announcement. Joe Biden had better results in the Democratic primary! He finally said some of the things that needed to be said and I hope more of his colleagues follow suit.

This is perhaps one of the most accurate and appropriate statements made by a Democrat in Congress since Bush took office:

“This is bullsh**t. This is malarkey. This is outrageous. ... He’s the guy who’s weakened us. He’s the guy that’s increased the number of terrorists in the world. His policies have produced this vulnerability the United States has. His intelligence community pointed that out not me. The NIE has pointed that out and what are you talking about, is he going to fire Condi Rice? Condi Rice has talked about the need to sit down. So his first two appeasers are Rice and Gates. I hope he comes home and does something.”

Now let's see if these words can translate to some action in Congress. Let's push to change our mission in Iraq. The U.S. population of honey bees is dying. And as you heard us discuss on previous episodes, that will have major impacts on the food you eat.

As a civilization, we are now experiencing the beginning of food shortages. Rice is becoming a rare commodity around the world and its lack of availability has sparked riots on multiple continents. Now imagine such shortages with foods such a pears, raspberries, strawberries, or dozens of other food products which rely on honey bee pollination to survive. While we may rail against the evils of large farming conglomerates or the commercialization of the food industry, this will affect farms of all sizes. The death of American honey bees does not care about the label on a package. As the fallout from their plummeting population becomes more widely felt, we will see prices skyrocket and eventual shortages on a huge variety of products. Lest we forget that not only fruit, but also honey itself will be in much shorter supply. And that goes far beyond food for uses.

When the numbers are seen, it has a much stronger effect. For the past two years, the number of commercially controlled bee colonies has declined by one-third. As a means of comparison, imagine one-third of all the commercial dairy cows in the United States dying in the period of one year. Or one-third of all American turkeys dying before Thanksgiving. How concerned would people be if any of those scenarios were to occur?

Now for the disappointing news. So far, the state of Pennsylvania has dedicated a whopping $81,000 towards researching this problem. That figure includes "emergency" funds. It is disappointing to know that Pennsylvania is leading the research effort because University of Pennsylvania is a national leader in bee colony research. But there is at least one company willing to make a substantial effort. As seen in the links above, Haagen-Dazs is contributing up to $250,000 towards researching the disappearing bees.

To find out more about how you can help, visit www.helpthehoneybees.com.

Lawyer fears 9/11 trial will be 'insanity'

Lawyer fears trial for alleged 9/11 mastermind will be "insanity"

I think the attorney, Prescott Prince, in this incredibly important case of the alleged 9/11 mastermind should be given awards and commendations just for standing up in defense of the Constitution and taking on the most difficult case he will ever try.

No doubt this man has or will receive death threats, and possibly threats against his family. Let's face it - there are plenty of Americans who believe in nationalism before patriotism. And he is significantly understaffed, courtesy of his own government. The United States government believes that he can put up a proper defense with only himself, a paralegal, an intelligence expert, and one other attorney. President Bush needs more help than that just to tie his shoes!

And I respect his decision to go public with his concerns about the legality of this trial and the procedures involved. He boldly states that waterboarding is torture and that any statement made under such duress would have absolutely no legal bearing in a civilian court and is definitely unConstitutional. But he doesn't have the luxury of the Constitution. The rules are different for his client. They face a secret trial, refusal to see counsel, secret evidence, and an American public that hates them both.

People need to understand what a wonderfully patriotic act Mr. Prince is carrying out. He is not only defending his client, but also the American system of justice (to the best of his ability). And despite the illegal acts (or lack of action) levied upon him by the military, Congress, Supreme Court, and White House, he is trying to show that justice can and should be blind. After this is over, I hope he can quickly retire and live the rest of his life in peace.

NASA Staffed with 12-year olds

13-year old German boy proves NASA wrong

NASA seems to be adding notches to their bedpost in the category of stupid mistakes. They have miscalculated landing distances (metres vs. feet) causing us to lose a $180 million satellite. The Columbia disaster was followed by the agency losing the original footage of the Armstrong moon landing. And to top it all off, a 13-year old German boy has proven NASA's calculations wrong.

NASA originally predicted the Apophis asteroid had a 1 in 45,000 chance of colliding with Earth. However, after this 13-year old used a German observatory to make his own calculations, he realized that NASA neglected to take collisions with other satellites/asteroids into their account. By doing so, the real possibility is just 1 in 450 that the asteroid will slam into our home world.

After the revelation, NASA took a look at his work and had to admit he is right. If the asteroid were to hit another asteroid and be pointed towards Earth, it would form a solid ball of iron weighing approximately 200 billion tons and slam into the Atlantic ocean. That impact would cause all Atlantic coastal areas to be wiped out and a huge dust cloud would block the sun's rays. Basically, think dinosaur extinction all over again.

Fun, right? That's a lot NASA. The Tibetan people have suffered under Chinese rule for 50 years and their political and spiritual leader has been forced to live in exile during that time. When they wanted to hold a peaceful protest on the anniversary of the 1959 uprising, Chinese police responded with batons, tear gas, and bullets. Surely they mistook Tibetan monks wrapped in bright orange robes for al Qaeda terrorists. Easy mistake?

In the five days since, businesses have been burned, civilians injured and killed, Chinese military rolling through the streets of Lhasa, and a media blackout so one will see the atrocities committed by the Chinese government. Politicians love to host dinners and galas (a.k.a. "money-for-favors fundraisers") and the powerful love to buy a Congressman, Senator, or President whenever it is convenient.

So it is natural to assume Congresspersons (is that a word?) would be tripping over each other to do what Bill Gates wants. Other than Warren Buffet, there is no one richer in America. So then why is it, after so many years of discussion, Congress is still arbitrarily limiting the amount of highly educated and highly trained individuals we allow into this country? Are we trying to corner the market on stupidity? That would be understandable under President Bush because he seems to have an aversion to people smarter than him. But seriously - we have capped the number of smart people we allow in! Through a program knows as the "H-1B visa", we allow highly educated people to live and work in the United States for companies like Microsoft, Google, Boeing, etc. Congress has capped the number of those visas to 65,000 per year. That number is so pathetically low, they were all taken in one day and far under-served the demand. Again, basic economic theory isn't the strong point of this Administration, but in this case, Congress should grasp simple supply and demand.

While I do not believe that the lack of H-1B visas is the reason so many companies are outsourcing jobs to other countries, it does point to yet another flaw in America's immigration policy. We have few reservations about opening the border to 20 million uneducated criminals, but when intelligent foreigners want to obey the law and enter the United States, we actually put a quota in place.

Yet another reason no federal politician on my ballot in November will receive my vote for re-election. Our government has failed us.

Bush will veto waterboarding ban

Bush plans to veto ban of waterboarding

If you happen to be one of the tiny fraction of Americans who are still unsure about the damage President Bush has done to this country, please, do me a favor and click the link above. You will see the quote from the White House in which they declare torture to be necessary for preventing attacks against America. They consider torture to be perfectly acceptable, legal, and necessary.

Perhaps I fell asleep in my history classes, or forgot my moral compass on a hike to the top of Mount You-Think-I-Am-Stupid, but didn't we demonize the Japanese for conducting waterboarding on our soldiers? Haven't we demonized every country who commits acts of torture? I thought we took the moral high ground so as to encourage the end of these primitive practices, especially on our own troops.

This one decision alone should be enough to impeach the President for high-crimes and misdemeanors and remove his Attorney General from office. So here's another request from The Onramp Podcast: Write your Representative, write your Senator, and write your President telling them that you will not support those who support torture.
