Poison for Children "Made in China"

Mattel announces recall of 9 million toys

Remember a couple decades ago when we were all encouraged and reminded to "buy American" and "look for the 'Made in the USA' label"? It's a message we should not have forgotten. If parents kept that in the front of their minds lately, they wouldn't have to worry about their kids' toys possibly KILLING THEM!

Mattel has announced the recall of more than 10 million toys in the last two weeks due to higher than allowable levels of lead in toys manufactured in China. Sure, they saved a bunch of money in labor and manufacturing costs, but now that money can be used for "return to sender" labels and attorney fees.

The bottom line is that the quality control process in China is laughable and they do not maintain the same health or safety standards required in the United States. But we can look forward to more interesting events as the Olympics grace the Chinese stage next year. It should be sad and unfortunate to see how many cases of food poisoning, event rigging, and judge bribery come from these games. I don't think the Falun Gong movement will be a part of the opening ceremonies and the Dalai Lama won't be Grand Marshalling any parades. But I'm sure we can trust the Chinese government. After all, they have the power to regulate reincarnation!
